Homeless Man Gouges Officer's Eye While Resisting Arrest In VA: Police

Good Samaritans came to the aid of a Prince William County police officer who was assaulted by a homeless man during an arrest attempt on Sunday night.

Brayan Villatla Vasquez, 21, who has no known address, refused to go down without a fight following the investigation into a robbery in Manassas in the area of Sudley Road and Irongate Way on Sunday, July 23.

Police say that responding officers called to investigate the robbery found Villatla Vasquez walking in the area, and when they attempted to apprehend him, he resisted and refused to follow their demands. 

During the struggle, Villatla Vasquez was able to get on top of one officer and pushed their head into the ground before using his thumb to gouge the officer's eye before passersby intervened and made the save.

The officer reported minor injuries.

Once taken into custody, Villatla Vasquez was busted with multiple pressed pills believed to be fentanyl. He was arrested and charged with: 

  • Attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer;
  • Obstruction of justice;
  • Possession of a Schedule I/II narcotic.

He is being held without bond and his initial court appearance is pending.
